Pourtant chacun tue ce qu’il aime (Yet everyone kills what they love), Camille Mutel’s next creation, is part of a series entitled The Place of the Other. Starting with Not I, an intimate and minimalist solo that progressively takes the form of a plastic composition, this quadrilogy explores gesture as that which binds one to the other.

Camille Mutel makes this new duet an autumn piece, that transitory season that sees death to make way for rebirth. She is inspired by warm colors, by what is possibly beautiful and an ease of burden in loss. She focuses her research on the fact that to remain living almost ineluctably implies the death of other species, and she is especially interested in the gesture of killing to nourish oneself. Conducting a field study in the villages, Mutel met with the inhabitants and discovered the rituals that often belong to the rural patrimony: slaughtering a lamb or a rabbit, fly fishing, and also gathering, harvesting and sowing seed. By putting them at a distance and transforming these gestures, she makes them a choreographic act that takes into account the interdependence between living systems.
